Beefy Lawson married Mary Jane Troumbly in Minnesota in 1951. He was a lifelong Taconite area resident. He was a member of the American Legion, the DAV, the Minnesota Peace Officers Association, the Bovey Moose Lodge, was president of the Greenway Recreation Board at the time of his death, and was an Itasca County Sheriff's Deputy at the time of his death.
Beefy died while performing duties as an Itasca County Sheriff's Department Deputy in the Pengilly area. He is buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine, Minnesota (Block 142). He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; three daughters, Darla (Robert) Kylander, Gail Roberts, and Kayls Lawson; four sons, Robert, Edward, Timothy "Timbo", and Todd Lawson; two brothers, Edward Lawson and Kenneth Lawson; and twelve grandchildren.
