James was born, raised and attended schools in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
He was married to Eileen Emma Gregoire on April 30, 1949, at Los Angeles, Claifornia. They lived in California two years, Thompson, North Dakota for three years and then came to Minnesota and settled in Warba, Minnesota. They lived in Warba for four years and then moved to Grand Rapdis, Minnesota in 1958.
He retired in 1984 from the Butler Taconite Plant at Cooley. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Itasca County Historical Society and Itasca County Genealogy Club. He was also a member of the United Steel Workers of America.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Rose Brohman and also by his wife, Eileen, who died in 1982.
James is survived by one daughter, Cathi Harding; eight sons, Michael, Joseph, Paul, John, Patrick, Greg, James, Jr., Anthony; four sisters, Sister Mary Catherine Brohman, Marion Kaelin, Margaret Delatorre and Veronica Gregoire; one brother, Frank; twenty-one grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
