- Military Highlights:
Carroll Vipond enlisted at Fort Snelling April 23, 1942. By the 4th of July, 1942, he was in England building an airport for the United States Air Force. The base had their own sewage disposal plant. Carroll designed and supervised the building of it. When the United States Army left, two cities made good use of it.
D-Day, 1944 plus 2 - Carroll was in Normandy. Served in Holland, Belgium. In Holland, their company lived in a closed pottery plant in Maastricht. It was the first city In Holland to be liberated by Eisenhower.
September 4, 1944 - See Commemorative Plate. The family that gave Carroll the plate had a 6 year old daughter that he would see walking around. He said she was so thin!! He tried to have an apple in his pocket to give to her.
Served 42 months in the Army with 40 months overseas!! He served in the England-European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre.

Carroll married Doris Loscheider on October 6, 1940. He worked for the Grand Rapids Public Utilities in Grand Rapids, Minnesota for 31 years and retired as superintendent for the utilities in 1976. After his retirement, he spent the winters in Texas until 1991 when he moved to Alamo, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, one son, John; one daughter, Margie Carlson, three grandchildren, one great granddaughter, one brother, George; and four sisters, Grayce Berggren, Jeanne Heuser, Harriet Lindgren, and Lorraine Samuelson.
