    Joseph came to the Splithand community in Itasca County to farm in 1912. He had been a resident of the Splithand community for 37 years.

    He married Agnes Christine Rasmussen of the Splithand community on May 5, 1920.

    Joseph's siblings were Ethel Florence (Burt) Anderberg, Robert Hutchison Burt, George Vernon Burt, Roy Alva Burt, Annie Eliza (Burt) Christopher, and Allan D. Burt.

    Survivors are his wife, Agnes; eight sons, Allan, Arnold, Robert, Scott, Charles, William, Joseph, and Wayne; three daughters, Josephine Ann (Burt) Crowe, Bonnie Lou Fontaine, and Shirley; three brothers, George, Allan, and Roy; and two sisters, Mrs. John Christopher and Mrs. Martin Auderberg.
