Upon graduation, he entered the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1962.

While working in the electronics field from 1962 to 1975, he also attended Brown Institute, graduating in 1967.
From 1975 to 1990 Michael worked in the law enforcement field in Minnesota and Montana including Chief of Police in Sanborn.
He married Laurel Ann Osnes on March 14, 1981 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Michael retired from law enforcement in 1991.
Following his liver transplant he continued to enjoy life's many journeys and destinations.
In 1999, the couple moved to Bigfork, Minnesota. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, including hunting, camping, fishing and especially collecting agates along the Yellowstone River in Montana. Other interests included his pets, photography, gun collecting and self-defense. He was a Harley-Davidson motorcycle enthusiast and proud owner of several Harleys over his lifetime. Michael was a member of Bigfork Lutheran Church, Bigfork Lions Club, and various law enforcement associations.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Brian.
Michael is survived by his wife, Laurel; brother, Mark; sisters, Roberta Vernon (Wayne Davis), Kimberly Laudert; Michele (Jim) Schramm; daughters, Angie Glass and Brenda Glass; two grandchildren; parents-in-law, Russ and Ardelle Osnes; brother-in-law, Russ Osnes; sister-in-law, Libby (Scott) Erie; brother-in-law, Jeff (Carol) Osnes; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
Michael died at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. No burial information is available.
